Los Angeles, CA – October 3, 2007– The International Press Academy today announced that EPS (Electrical Power Industry of Serbia), the state-owned electric company, has signed on with two other major Serbian companies as sponsors of the IPA’s 12th Annual Satellite Awards. EPS, which will invest 1.2 billion euros on environmental protection initiatives to meet the standards of the European Union by 2015, joins Serbia Telekom (Telekom Srbija) and Dunav Insurance Company in support of the IPA’s eco-friendly “green carpet” theme this year. EPS, Serbia Telekom, and Dunav Insurance will be represented at the Satellite Awards and will sponsor the IPA’s Nikola Tesla Award in Recognition of Visionary Achievements in Filmmaking Technology. A spokesman for EPS said “Tesla’s legacy can be seen across modern civilization wherever electricity is used. His patents and theoretical work form the basis of modern alternating current electric power (AC) systems, including the polyphase power distribution system and AC motor.” Additionally, MRI machines are actually calibrated in “Tesla” units, and Nikola Tesla is also credited with innovation that laid the foundation for wireless communications. Son of a Serbian Orthodox clergyman who lived from 1856-1943, Tesla was an early proponent of clean, efficient energy, which is now a widely accepted goal worldwide in the face of global warming and climate change. EPS has a section of its official website devoted to Tesla’s life and work. IPA's recipients of the Tesla Award mirror the ingenuity and boldness that Nikola Tesla demonstrated through his work. Not only does The Tesla Award embody technical excellence in one’s chosen field but also acknowledges continuing innovation. Eight-time Oscar® winner Dennis Muren will receive the 2007 Tesla Award for his groundbreaking work in visual effects that include some of the most recognized sequences in modern filmmaking, from the “flying bicycle” scene in “ET” to “Jurassic Park” dinosaurs and the complex sub-worlds in “Star Wars.” The International Press Academy (IPA) has grown to be among the largest and most diverse associations of professional entertainment journalists representing both domestic and foreign markets in print, television, radio, cable, new media outlets. The IPA was the first organization to make a separate category for animated and multimedia motion pictures. See www.pressacademy.com for more information.
